Words, Food, Photos: Food Writer, Recipe Developer, Photographer
Please note: I do not use services such as Elance, Guru, Odesk, or other writers’ clearing houses to advertise my work or to bid on jobs. If you have been directed here by a contact at any such site, that is a false lead. Please feel free to get in touch with me directly at my barb[at]barbfreda.com email address.
I became a food writer and recipe developer after nearly ten years on the line of professional kitchens, including the early years of NYC’s Union Square Cafe. I’ve also served as a catering chef for Peachtree and Ward in Philadelphia, where we catered events for as many as 700 guests in venues ranging from open fields to the Rodin Museum.
My other love is teaching cooking. I’ve taught in mall kitchen stores, in private homes, in public kitchens and in restaurant kitchens (I recently taught the staff of a Charlotte restaurant how to make fresh mozzarella to use on the menu there).
Now I am a freelance writer focused on food and the business of food. You might find me blogging for a food company, for my own site (Babette’s Feast), writing articles for business journals about the business of food and restaurants or for websites about the latest trends in the kitchen. I love to write about the intersection of food and culture.
I served as food editor for Florida Table, a regional food magazine in southeast Florida for almost all of its issues (the publication succumbed to the tough economic times). I also served as “Dining Expert” for VISITFLORIDA.com, blogging, writing and hosting videos about food finds in Florida.
These days, I write about food and food trends; I test and develop recipes, and I round out my food writing with as many travel and wine stories as I can fit into my day.
Or, as I like to say, I suffer for my craft.
